Indigenous Inclusion

Indigenous Participation

Our approach is guided by the four pillars of our Indigenous Inclusion Guiding Principles. With respect to our cultural awareness pillar, we have multiple events annually in addition to formal training, with most employees having participated. NuVista employees have also participated in training offered by communities with whom we consult. Our cultural training helps raise awareness about the history, experiences and cultures of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and supports our ongoing economic advancement efforts with Indigenous communities in our areas of operation. With respect to our economic inclusion pillar, NuVista remains focused on providing concrete benefits to the Indigenous communities surrounding our operations, including contracts and jobs. In 2023, NuVista spent $28 million on contracts with Indigenous community-owned, member-owned, or partnered businesses.

1

Cultural Understanding

We will participate in Indigenous-led cultural awareness opportunities to create greater understanding, respect and appreciation for Indigenous culture; we will also seek opportunities to provide understanding about our business culture and associated operations.
2

Meaningful Engagement

Beyond meeting regulatory requirements, we will seek the involvement of Indigenous communities by providing clear information about our projects early in the planning process, in a manner that is culturally relevant and provides opportunity for meaningful input.
3

Economic Participation

As a Canadian energy company, we believe that we can play a unique role in fostering economic development. Our focus will be to collaborate with Indigenous communities in the areas of workforce inclusion, business participation, education and training.
4

Community Involvement

In collaboration with communities, we will identify opportunities for community involvement to build relationships based on trust, understanding and support.

NuVista's Commitment to Partnering with Indigenous Communities

In 2022, NuVista completed the first Indigenous equity transaction in the Alberta Montney with the five Nations of the Niyanin Nations partnership. With this transaction, Niyanin and NuVista partnered to construct a cogeneration facility at NuVista’s Wembley Gas Plant.

"NuVista is committed to ensuring the economic benefits we create for our shareholders also cause economic growth and benefits in the communities around us – especially in Indigenous communities. For us, the cogen partnership represents a deepening of our commitment to both of these tenets. We feel fortunate to share in the economic and environmental benefits of this project with the Nations of the Niyanin partnership."

- Jonathan Wright, Director, NuVista Energy Ltd.
